CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION
BI-LOK fittings are composed of four (4) precision machined parts: 1) body, 2) front ferrule, 3) back ferrule, 4) nut.
A leak tight seal is achieved through the simple action of tightening the nut against the body. This provides the axial thrust required to compress the captively held ferrules against the O.D. of the tubing. The staged swinging action of the ferrules during the compression phase of make-up provides the key to BI-LOK's sealing superiority.
The front ferrule, as it is urged forward against the tapered area of the body is forced inward gripping and subsequently sealing the leading edge tightly onto tubing.
Simultaneously the back ferrule, dove tailed directly behind the front ferrule, swages beneath its trailing edge affording the desired "coining" action and mechanical connection of tubing and fitting. It is this interaction of ferrules that allows BI-LOK to achieve its excellent sealing capabilities under a wide variety of application variables.
QUALITY CONTROL
BI-LOK tube fittings are inspected to the rigid standards of BILOK IHARA Corporation's Quality Control Manual to assure excellence of product.
FITTING MATERIAL
Stainless Steel
BI-LOK tube fittings consist of a body, nut and ferrules constructed of type 316 stainless steel. Straight bodies are machined from cold finished bar stock material that is in accordance with ASTM A479 and shaped bodies are machined from close grained forgings in accordance with ASTM A182. Material is heat code traceable.
Brass
BI-LOK brass bar stock fittings are manufactured from premium grade CA360 brass (ASTM B16) and forging from CA377 (ASTM B124) materials. |

PRESSURE RATINGS
The pressure ratings of the BI-LOK tube fittings are determined by the tubing on which they are installed.
TUBE SELECTION
The selection of the proper tubing is essential to the performance of a tubing system. Consideration should be given to a system's pressure, flow, temperature, and environment when choosing the tubing material, size and wall thickness. The following is our suggested tubing ordering information.
Tube fittings are designed to be used on similar tube materials (stainless on stainless, brass on copper, steel on steel, etc.). The use of dissimilar fitting and tube material can lead to an unstable system.
Stainless Steel
Type 304 or 316 stainless steel tubing should be fully annealed seamless or welded and drawn tubing of ASTM A269, A213, A249 or equivalent specification. Tubing hardness of Rockwell B-90 or less is recommended. Tubing is to be free of scratches, or surface abrasions.
Copper
Seamless soft annealed tubing of ASTM B-75 specification or equivalent. Also seamless soft annealed Type K or Type L copper temper O water tube of ASTM B-88 specification or equivalent. Tubing is to be free of scratches or surface abrasions. See Charts 2 and 3 for working pressure data.
INTERCHANGEABILITY
BI-LOK tube fittings are manufactured to be totally "interchangeable" with the Swagelok® tube fitting. Piece by piece examination reveals that the two brands are totally component intermixable.
The exceptional quality standards of both products assure complete reliability of service when intermixing the component parts.
